Go Play!

Just touched down in San Francisco International Airport after a groggy and leg-cramped seven hour excursion from Philly.  Yep, that’s right, I am sitting in the airport typing out this blog, while I could be out exploring the city.  Lame, some would say.  Committed?  Yeah, committed.  What can I say?  I love The Movement Program!  Class will resume July 17.  Fret not, I will be posting at least three workouts you and your homeys can take on during my hiatus.  I will also be posting pictures of the trip.  These pictures will include, but not be limited to, trolley cars, good coffee, and SEA LIONS!  Yes, Sea Lions.  Real ones.  Not fake ones.  Ones with bushy whiskers and lazy gazes. Did I mention that will also be taking pictures of Ben Smith and Talayana Fortunato on top of the podium at the CrossFit Games down in LA?  Yeah, there will be some cool photos of the Games (even though I know you will all be intently watching it live on ESPN3!)  Suffice it to say, it will be a good trip.

Now, given the fact that there will no class for a while, what will you do to fill that gaping hole in your soul?  My suggestion:  go play a sport.  Get a bunch of people together and get a game of 3-on-3 basketball going.  Soccer?  Sure, why not?!  Tennis? Absolutely.  Put your rapidly rising levels of fitness to the test outside of the CF world.  Go and see the value of ripping heavy weight off the ground or shredding through a seemingly endless jungle of burpees.  Try and play for at least one hour a day.  Just don’t screw around like this jag off:

In the meantime, stay cool.  I hear that one hundred degree days are coming soon.  I’ll be enjoying the cool ocean breezes and refreshing sixty degree weather days!

Yesterday, we were visited by Patrick and Colin, two of my teammates from CrossFit Novem up in Fishtwon and with the added eyes, we worked on hitting the fundamentals of the snatch.  We broke down the various positions as discussed by Coach Glen Pendlay (Bar to the thighs, bar below the knees, bar at the mid-shin/ground) and slowly worked our way up and down the ladder.  Still missing out on that violent hip drive!  But overall, I was pleased to see some great improvements.  Today was Madison’s first day with this lift and she’s a quick study.  Bar path was decent, now we just have to get those hips to drive through the bar.  Everything in time!

Alright, it’s time to get out and see the sights!  Stay tuned, Movement.  WODs to be posted by Monday!
